The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
